Belated words about the Emerald Triangle tour, which was a total blast. Good to be around my old pals Farmer and Rice again, it had been a good long while since we’d hung out and played. Got to know Dubs and Andy much better on this trip, and was rad meeting and groovin’ with Colin. Saw parts of California i’d always wanted to see, and the music was insane of course. Playing all of those great songs and got to spend some time on the bass, which i don’t do enough of. Nevada City and Mendocino were mind blowers, gotta get back up there again soon. The west is the best. Thanks to Farmer Dave for putting the concept together and bringing everybody together.

The third record by that band i play in, Hazy Malaze, is now available on wonderful vinyl, cd, and digital, at our website WWW.HAZYMALAZE.NET
It’s called “Connections”, it’s rock n’ roll music. The songs are good, the sounds are good, the playing is good, the artwork is good.  It’s a good record, our best yet, we’ve come a long way with it,  we’re stoked on it. Check it out n’ buy it for your next roadtrip or whatever…

I’ll be playing bass and singing harmonies on The Emerald Triangle Tour, which begins on November 1st at Soho in Santa Barbara, Ca.
The band is Farmer Dave Scher, Johnathan Rice, Johnathan Wilson, and Andy Cabic from Vetiver. All of these guys are amazing musicians who make great records on their own but are coming together for this one off tour of California. We’ll be playing original songs by each guy, and some covers for good measure. Anyone who’s around should come out. The San Fran show is my birthday so come have a drink or something. We’re playing some out of the way places too, well worth the road trip. Here are the dates:

Show Dates: 11/1 — Soho………… ……………Santa Barbara, CA         http://www.sohosb.com11/2 — The Independent……….San Francisco, CA    http://www.theindependentsf.com11/4 — The Nevada Theatre………Nevada City, CA    http://www.nevadatheatre.com11/6 — MPP Fundraiser …………….Sonoma, CA11/7 — Caspar Inn …………………….Caspar, CA          http://www.casparinn.com

Recent bits n' bobs

Solo show at the Makeout Room in SF was really great. Got to meet and jam with Tim Bluhm which was an honor and a thrill. I’ve been a fan of the guy for years so it was cool to bring it full circle. If you haven’t heard him, check his band the Mother Hips and his solo records as well. The guy is a true artiste, a fine gent, and the real California deal when it comes to music making and life living.

Heading to Australia and New Zealand on November 21st to tour with Gin Wigmore and some of the Cardinal boys.  We’ve heard that her debut record “Holy Smoke” just went Number 1 down there so congrats Gin. Exciting to be a part of such a good record. If you haven’t heard it, check it ‘cause Gin and her songs/voice are amazing, and ‘cause we play on it!

It’s been a great summer here in California. Got to play on Gin Wigmore’s completely fantastic debut record “Holy Smoke”, produced by Mike Elizondo, which will be released real soon. Got to go to Woodstock to play  on Johnny Irion and Sarah Lee Guthrie’s record, which will be released sometime next year. Thom Monahan and Andy Cabic produced it and there’s just some really beautiful songs and harmonies there.
Finished up the third Hazy Malaze record, “Connections”, which will be available on vinyl through our website within a matter of days. It’s by far our best record yet and we’re all really stoked on it. It’s good rock n’ roll and the songwriting is really up to standards this time.
Finished work on the Cardinals photo book which is way way way beyond a dream come true. It will be out through Abrams Image in February. Will write more about it as the release date gets closer.
Played exactly one solo show at Paradise Surf Shop in Santa Cruz at the end of July, and had me a real good time.
Drove through Big Sur on the way back from Santa Cruz and that’s always a mindblower.
Saw Farmer Dave play songs from his new record “Flash Forward To The Good Times” at the Troubadour the other night, totally amazing.
Further water wisdom from Dubstar back home, DJ down south, and the Frosty/Zeuf/Ashley/Adam/Liz n’ Dave crew up north.
Still holding out a mellow candle for “Roots And Wings”.
Working on new music here at the homestead and wondering what’s coming next…
